The Next Phase of Student Housing in Soshanguve
Large-scale student accommodation depends on more than just getting structures out of the ground. It requires reliable systems, coordinated planning and close collaboration between everyone involved in the build. That is exactly what is taking place on the Soshanguve Student Residence development, where Uni-span is supporting M&C Construction and main contractor Raubex Building with the formwork systems and technical input required across multiple phases of the project.
Phase 2 Taking Shape
Phase 2 consists of four three-storey accommodation blocks, designed to house approximately 2,000 students. Uni-span is supplying plywood on Pfeifer timber beams for the deck formwork, supported by Kwikstage, together with the design input needed to ensure the systems are suited to the requirements of the build.
Our involvement goes beyond supplying equipment. By working closely with the construction teams on the formwork design and system requirements, we are helping create an efficient, coordinated approach that supports progress across the site.
Building on a Successful First Phase
The current work follows the successful completion of Phase 1, where Uni-span also supplied the formwork for four student residence blocks. Those buildings will provide accommodation for approximately 2,200 students and are due to be handed over in December. The strong working relationship developed through the first two phases has resulted in Uni-span continuing its involvement across the wider development. Phase 3 is scheduled to begin in March 2027, with Phase 4 set to follow.
A Partnership Built Across Every Phase
One of the most important aspects of this project has been the collaboration between Uni-span, M&C Construction and Raubex Building. From formwork design through to equipment supply and ongoing technical support, the teams have worked together to ensure the right solutions are in place as construction progresses.
These types of projects demonstrate the value of being involved beyond a single pour or phase. By supporting the development from one stage to the next, we are able to build continuity into the formwork solution and provide the technical support needed as the project evolves.
When all four phases are complete, the development will represent a significant addition to student accommodation in Soshanguve, and we’re proud to be playing a role in helping bring it to life.
