Augusta Steel is based in Boksburg and has a 20 000m² steel  processing plant under crane, with the ability to handle heavy coils of rolled steel of up to 30 tons.

Augusta Steel buys steel direct from South Africa’s leading supplier, ArcelorMittal, at the lowest cost available to the market, with no middle-man mark ups.  In turn they supply Uni-Span Manufacturing directly, delivering coils slit to size to suit manufacturing requirements, as well as tube and sheet steel.

Augusta Steel holds sufficient stock to ensure that they can supply the Uni-Span manufacturing operation,  and all other customers through all demand peaks.  When Uni-Span acquired Augusta Steel, it invested in new machinery and upgraded existing process lines.  This includes two new tube mills as well as a slitting line with the capabilities of processing coil up to 6mm thick. A plate processing line up to 300mm wide is also in place.

Augusta Steel, while an integral part of the Uni-Span manufacturing supply chain, is an independent steel producer, supplying various industries both directly and through distributorships.  Augusta Steel processes various products for the steel industry, predominantly in tubing, through their two tube mills.  They run three open section mills for lipped channel and angle and also have a 6mm plate line.

An additional large bore tube mill will be commissioned by the end of 2015 and will be incorporated into the existing operation. Tubing is manufactured according to SANS 657-1 scaffold/structural specification as well as SANS 62-1 specification  for conveyance pipe which are both SABS approved.

Augusta Steel’s top of the range tube mills have the capability to manufacture various diameters of steel tubing of different thicknesses to within critical accuracies.  Augusta Steel’s facilities are such that all products can be handled and loaded independently, offering a reliable, efficient dispatch system, which is operational on a 24 hr basis.
